Amy Celebrates 20 Years on The Bobby Bones Show — And the Stories Are Just Getting Better!
Twenty years. Two whole decades. Thousands of shows, countless laughs, a few on-air walkouts (more on that later), and one unforgettable journey.
Today marks Amy's official 20th anniversary on The Bobby Bones Show, and the crew took a trip down memory lane to celebrate the milestone.
"I feel like once you get close to 20 years, you just start saying 20 years," Amy admitted. "But now that it's officially here... it's crazy."
And honestly? We agree!!
It Started With a Pay Cut and a Leap of Faith
Believe it or not, Amy didn't leave her previous job because radio was the obvious choice.
Back in 2006, she was working for a natural stone importer and wholesaler when Bobby approached her about joining the show. After looking at the offer, she realized she'd actually be making less money.
Most people would've run the other direction.
Amy didn't.
Instead, she took the leap, figuring she'd do radio for a couple of years and then return to her old job.
The best part? Her former coworkers were convinced she'd be back.
"They were like, 'Yeah, go do your thing. You'll always have a job here when you're done with that,'" Amy recalled.
A couple years turned into 20.
Safe to say that prediction didn't exactly age well.
Amy Thought She'd Be Gone in Two Years
Amy's original plan wasn't to build a career in radio.
In fact, when her contract ended after her first stint on the show, she actually left and moved to North Carolina. Bobby joked that she treated her contract like a prison sentence.
"I'd done my two years and my contract was up," Amy laughed.
Of course, she eventually returned, and that's a very good thing for listeners.
Because let's be honest: The Bobby Bones Show wouldn't feel the same without her.
Yes, She Really Tried to Quit on the Air
Longtime listeners probably remember some of Amy's more dramatic moments.
During the anniversary conversation, the crew reminisced about the multiple times Amy either walked out of the studio or threatened to quit while the show was live.
One of the most memorable moments produced a line that listeners still quote to this day.
As Amy prepared to leave the show years ago, she famously warned everyone that whoever replaced her had better be...
"Freaking prepared!"
The quote has lived on in show history ever since.
Looking back, Amy says she was much more inexperienced back then and saw the show as a group of friends hanging out around microphones.
Today, she understands just how many people depend on the show's success and admits she's matured quite a bit since those early days.
Still, those moments have become legendary among longtime listeners.
The Artists Amy Will Never Forget
Two decades on the show means Amy has met some of the biggest names in music history.
When Bobby asked her which artists stand out the most, she quickly mentioned three icons:
Amy's George Strait story is especially memorable.
Although she met him as a kid because of a family connection, Bobby later helped orchestrate an elaborate surprise. Amy thought she was doing a phone interview with the King of Country Music—only for George Strait to walk into the studio in person.
Not a bad surprise.
Then there's Taylor Swift.
Amy laughed while remembering the time she took private art lessons and painted a portrait of Taylor. After giving it to the superstar, Taylor kindly told Amy she was talented.
Whether the painting ever actually made it onto Taylor's tour bus remains a mystery.
Twenty Years Later...
The show has changed dramatically over the past two decades.
The team has grown, the audience has expanded across the country, and the crew has shared countless life experiences together.
Through it all, Amy has remained one of the voices listeners know and love.
From taking a pay cut to chase an opportunity, to nearly quitting, to interviewing some of the biggest stars on the planet, her journey has been anything but boring.
And after 20 years?
She's still here making us laugh.
Happy 20th anniversary, Amy. Here's to all the memories—and whatever hilarious chaos comes next!!!
