The Secret Behind Lauren Alaina and Chase Matthew's Hit Duet "All My Exes"

Lauren Alaina Reveals the Surprising Person Behind Her New Hit with Chase Matthew

Sometimes the biggest hits happen because someone outside the music business has a great ear.

When Lauren Alaina and Chase Matthew stopped by The Bobby Bones Show, they shared the hilarious story behind their collaboration, "All My Exes" — and it turns out Lauren's husband, Cameron Arnold, deserves a lot of the credit.

The two artists first became friends while touring together on Jason Aldean's 2024 tour, but according to Chase, the real friendship formed between him and Cameron.

"Me and Cam became close," Chase explained. "He told me, 'I think you and Lauren need to do a song together.'"

What Lauren didn't know? Cameron secretly sent Chase "All My Exes" before she ever played it for him herself.

Chase admitted he spent an entire week pretending he had never heard the song when Lauren invited him onto her bus to get his opinion. While she played the track, he was secretly trying not to sing along because he'd already learned it.

"I knew this song the whole time," Chase confessed, revealing that he didn't tell Lauren until they were already in the studio recording it.

Lauren laughed while admitting both Chase and her husband kept the secret from her.

The funny part is that "All My Exes" wasn't even guaranteed to make the album. Lauren wrote the song years ago and originally wasn't sure where it fit creatively. The track's blend of country music and 808-driven production felt different from anything she had done before.

But Cameron wouldn't let it go.

"He fought to get the song on the album," Lauren said. "And then it became the one that blew up and became the single."

Once the song started coming together in the studio, both artists knew they had something special. Lauren said Chase's vocal instantly elevated the track, while Chase admitted there was pressure stepping into someone else's record.

"It's like staying in somebody's house," he joked. "You want to be a good guest."

The extra effort paid off. The pair said they went through countless mixes to make sure they captured the chemistry they felt while recording.

Now they're watching audiences embrace the song in real time.

Lauren said fans have been singing along at shows for months, but recently the momentum has reached a completely different level. Chase knew the song had entered a new phase when he heard it playing over the speakers while walking through an airport.

"That's when you know it's happening," Bobby told him.

As the conversation continued, the pair showed off the same sibling-like chemistry they've developed since meeting on tour, constantly teasing each other while also throwing plenty of compliments around. Chase even called Lauren a "powerhouse of country music," while Lauren credited him with helping shape the direction of the entire album.

With Lauren's new album arriving soon and "All My Exes" continuing to gain traction, it's clear one thing is true: Cameron Arnold's secret matchmaking plan worked out pretty well.
