Iowa sophomore point guard Jordan Bohannon was playing in a game against Northwestern where he had the potential to break a free throw record.
Up to 73-65 with just over two minutes remaining in the game, Bohannon clanked a free throw off the front of the rim. If he would have made the shot, it would have been his 35th consecutive successful free throw, surpassing the school record of Iowa's Chris Street. Street, died in a car accident in 1993 while the streak was ongoing. After Bohannon's miss, he pointed to the sky in an apparent tribute to Street.
Bohannon noted after the game to Iowa On BTN, "That's not my record to have."
Bohannon and Street's family have gotten to know each other over the last couple of years. Street's parents had attended the game and upon the game's ending, they embraced Bohannon on the court, according to Des Moines Register.
