Bobby's Coaching Dream Might Actually Be Coming True After On-Air Offers
What started as Bobby buying season tickets for a random college football team may have just turned into the start of his coaching career.
Recently, Bobby shared that he purchased season tickets to Akron Zips football after learning one lucky season-ticket holder would get the chance to call plays for an entire series during a game. The possibility of standing on the sideline with a headset on was enough to get him all in.
Bobby even threw out another challenge: if a college team would let him come coach for a game, he'd donate money to the school's charity or foundation for the opportunity.
That's when the offers started rolling in.
First, Jared, the general manager for Oklahoma Women's Basketball, called the show with an invitation to come to Norman and be a guest coach for a game. Jared offered Bobby the chance to sit on the bench, participate in game-day activities, talk to the team, and maybe even help call a few plays.
While Bobby quickly pointed out that basketball doesn't quite scratch his headset obsession the same way football does, he was intrigued.
As the conversation continued, Bobby started negotiating for actual responsibilities, including everything from calling timeouts to arguing with referees. He even floated the possibility of receiving a technical foul for the team.
The more they talked, the more serious it seemed.
Considering Bobby's wife Caitlin and much of her family are diehard Oklahoma Sooners fans, Bobby admitted the opportunity would fit right into his life, even if he's still loyal to Arkansas.
Then things got even crazier.
Nicole called from Tennessee with an offer from a high school football coach willing to let Bobby call an entire game during their annual rivalry matchup. While Bobby loved the idea, he politely declined, saying he wasn't comfortable having that much influence over a game involving high school athletes and all the parents that come with it.
Still, the fact that the offer was on the table only added fuel to the dream.
To top it off, another listener suggested Clemson should invite Bobby to coach as a way to reverse the infamous "Bobby Bones Show curse" that was placed on the Tigers back in 2022 after head coach Dabo Swinney missed a scheduled interview. The show joked that Clemson's struggles since then may not be a coincidence.
By the end of the segment, Bobby went from hoping to call one series for the Akron Zips to potentially coaching multiple teams this season.
Now the question is no longer whether Bobby will get a chance to coach.
It's how many teams are willing to hand him a headset!!
