Kip Moore Embraces His Inner Outlaw In New Song, 'Southpaw'

Kip Moore has shared yet another glimpse at his forthcoming Wild World album with the release of the guitar-heavy "Southpaw."

The track, co-written by Moore alongside Westin Davis, finds Moore imagining a life lived outside the law.

“I shoulda been an outlaw/ Ready for a quick draw/ Everybody call me the gun slingin’ Southpaw/ Ain’t no time for runnin/ ‘Cause ya never saw me comin’/ I could be dangerous I could be famous/ Have my name babe in all of the papers/ Sayin’ I’m wanted, by the law and every woman/ Yea, they’d call me the Southpaw,” Moore sings in the chorus.

"'Southpaw' started from a feeling of being on the outside looking in on modern society. I don’t want my edges to be smoothed to fit into a box," Moore explains. "I woke up the day we wrote it feeling like I was born in the wrong era. I grew up a boxing fan and a Southpaw was always a rare sighting, unpredictable and hard to prepare for."

He continues, "I wrote the song with Westin Davis in South Dakota and we’ve always understood each other like brothers and being kind of cut from the same cloth. I knew he would get my headspace that day and he always brings the magic. And on the recording side of things, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so much juice in a session."

Moore's Wild World album is due out on May 29. The 13-track project will also feature his recently released song, "Wild World," and the lead single, "She's Mine." See a full track listing here.
