Lady Gaga's Shocking '911' Music Video Has A Terrifying Plot Twist

Lady Gaga has returned with a new music video!

Mother Monster unveiled the long-awaited visual for her latest single β€œ911” on Friday (September 18), and the entire project is just as crucial as its name suggests. The clip opens with Gaga, wearing religious clothing, apparently stranded in a desert before she follows a strange horseman to a nearby temple. At one point, she suffers a mental shock that jolts her back to reality as medics appear to aid her after an apparent car accident.

In a previous interview, Gaga stated that "911" was written about her experience taking a prescribed antipsychotic medication called Olanzapine after enduring a psychotic break. Like its lyrics, the song's visual also evokes a sense of emotional disorientation and mental anguish.

"I didn’t understand what was going on, because my whole body went numb; I fully dissociated," Gaga recalled the frightening experience to Oprah Winfrey for ELLE Magazine in 2019. "I was screaming, and then [the ER psychiatrist] calmed me down and gave me medication for when that happensβ€”Olanzapine. [The drug] helped me that day, and that man and all my friends, they saved my life."

The Grammy-winning songstress’ new visual comes weeks after the 34-year-old hit the stage at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards to deliver the song live for the first time on television in a Chromatica-inspired medley. (Watch it here, in case you missed it!)

Gaga’s β€œ911” follows previously-released singles β€œRain on Me” featuring Ariana Grande and β€œStupid Love,” all of which appear on her sixth studio album, Chromatica, which also features guest appearances by Elton John (β€œSine from Above”) and Blackpink (β€œSour Candy”).
