Tim McGraw paid tribute to the late broadcast journalist Barbara Walters on Tuesday (January 3), sharing a throwback cli of an interview Walters conducted with McGraw’s superstar wife, Faith Hill.
Walters, acclaimed broadcast journalist, TV host and author, died on December 30, 2022. She was 93. Her spokesperson confirmed in a statement at the time: “Barbara Walters passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She lived her life with no regrets. She was a trailblazer not only for female journalists but for all women.”
The interview clip that McGraw shared between Walters and Hill reflects on the couple’s heartwarming romance. Walters asked Hill whether it was “love at first sight” when she first met McGraw.
“Of course, I was attracted to him because he’s so amazingly beautiful,” Hill said with a laugh. “He was…like comfort to me. I don’t know. I just — I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this person was the one that had to be my mate for the rest of my life.”
The two women went on to talk about McGraw’s proposal, public reactions to changes to Hill’s hairstyle, concerns that Hill’s “sexier” wardrobe piece may have indicated that she was transitioning to pop music from country, Hill’s acting aspirations and more. At the time of the interview, McGraw and Hill had welcomed two of their three daughters, who are now all in their 20s: Gracie (25), Maggie (24) and Audrey (21).
Hill assured Walters that, no matter what she and McGraw did with their careers, their marriage and children would always be their top priority.
“We just have to keep reminding each other that our marriage is the most important,” Hill said. “Our family is the most important thing, regardless of what happens in our careers.”
“Thank you Barbara for all the great work!” McGraw captioned the clip on Instagram. Watch it here:
