Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel reportedly could be targeted for the Cleveland Browns if both teams' head coaching positions become available, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler reported that there was a "sense" that McDaniel, 42, would be a candidate for the Browns' head coaching position if the Dolphins decide to move on from him and Cleveland opts to fire current head coach Kevin Stefanski. McDaniel has long been rumored to be on the hot seat following the Dolphins' 3-7 start, but has reportedly gained some support after going 5-2 in his last seven games.

"He still has some support in Miami," Fowler said. "We will see if that's enough. He has made a case to stay. From what I've gathered, the Dolphins' GM search won't necessarily be centered around fitting with McDaniel; it's more so about finding the best team fit in general."

McDaniel has gone 35-34 during five seasons with the Dolphins, having made the playoffs during his first two seasons, but finishing with a losing record in each of the last two, entering Week 18 at 7-9 record, which can either match last year's 8-9 record or fall to 7-10. Stefanski, 43, led the Browns to two postseason berths in his six-year tenure, but has double-digit losses in each of the past two seasons and was widely criticized for his handling of rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders' lack of reps prior to Sanders finishing the season as the team's starting quarterback.
