Morgan Evans spotlighted Keith Urban as an artist who blazed trails for others.

Evans, 40, appeared on a recent episode of The BobbyCast. During his conversation with Bobby Bones, Evans spoke about Urban’s self-titled studio album, and how Urban “paved the way” for other country artists from Australia.

“My mum dragged me along to this gig in my hometown at the Newcastle Workers Club. Turns out, this guy was playing,” Evans said on The BobbyCast while holding Urban’s record. “And when I saw him come out on stage, he was like, all the old rock and roll that I grew up on, all the old country music I grew up on, all put together. And he was just ripping on the guitar, and it was just like this lightbulb going off in my head. And I thought, ‘I need to find out where that came from.’ When I was out doing my first rounds at all the radio stations, they were like, ‘oh, you’re from Australia,’ as opposed to like, I’m sure he [Urban] was like, ‘country music from Australia? That doesn’t make sense.’ You know, but he kind of made it make sense. And so, being able to come in after that, it was like a door already kind of nudged open a little bit.”

Evans shared “an open conversation” with Bobby Bones throughout the podcast. The singer-songwriter spoke about his “very public divorce” from fellow country star Kelsea Ballerini in 2022, how he dealt with the backlash that followed, “why he traveled to Costa Rica for an ayahuasca experience,” the experiences that inspired his soon-to-debut album, his new relationship with Laci Kaye Booth and more. Evans will release Steel Town on March 20. Find the full episode of The BobbyCast on iHeartRadio and on Netflix.
