Jo Dee Messina debuted a vulnerable new ballad from the album she’s set to release next month.
Messina teamed up with Ethan Hulse to write “Can Anybody,” a song that arrived on Friday (May 8) and addresses a widely-asked question: “Do I matter?” Messina shared in a statement that “Can Anybody” “gives voice to the moments of doubt when the world feels deafeningly silent.”
“Can Anybody” is the latest track to release from Bridges, following “Some Bridges” and “Don’t Let Them Hide Your Beautiful.” The upcoming 11-track album is Messina’s first in more than a decade. A previously-issued press release states that it reflects “10 years' worth of seasons rolled up into one,” including “the love, the life, the pain, the fight, the learning — and the living through it all.” Messina said in a recent interview with iHeartCountry that Bridges “runs the gamut,” and covers “a whole lot,” including love, life, pain, fight, learning and living.
“When they [fans] listen to the album, I hope they feel seen, first of all, and not alone in this life because everybody hurts and everybody celebrates,” Messina told iHeartCountry. “(There are) tons of topics on the record. I hope they feel hopeful and seen and understood.”
Messina previously shared in a statement that Bridges is “not about a full transformation. t’s about what I've gone through and how I’ve gotten through it all. But I’m not done living yet. There’s still a lot more to learn. …I started off writing from wisdom and perspective. And then as I got deeper into the writing of the record, I was like, ‘Wait a minute. Let's talk about healing. Let’s instill some hope.’”
“I’m entering into the phase with extreme gratitude,” Messina told iHeartCountry, hinting to keep an eye on her social media accounts for more announcements. “(I’m) just excited. It’s like, ‘oh my gosh, I get to do this. This is great.’”
Bridges will release on June 5. Find Messina’s music on iHeartRadio here.
