Dan + Shay delivered their “most personal, most authentic, most autobiographical album to date,” on Friday (August 21).
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney kicked off the weekend with Young, the duo’s newest 10-track record. Dan + Shay’s newest chapter includes the previously-released title track, “Say So,” “Marry You Again,” and “Her, The Kids, and Jesus.” Young also includes coming-of-age stories, emotional ballads, wedding-worthy songs, a collaboration with reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Cody Johnson and more.
“I have never been more excited for an album release in our entire career,” Smyers said in a clip Dan + Shay shared on Instagram shortly before Young’s debut. “I feel like, personally, I’m a tough critic. Ask anyone. You [Shay] know I’m a tough critic. I feel like this is our best album yet. Tracks 1 through 10, Shay and I co-wrote them together. This is definitely our most personal, most authentic, most autobiographical album to date. If you listen to this, it is a snapshot of exactly who we are as men at this current moment in our lives, and I’m just so proud of this music, man. And I don’t know. I get emotional thinking about it and talking about it. …Thank you for allowing us to do what we love.”
Mooney added, “we’re so proud of this. And thank you guys for being patient with us. We’ve talked a lot about, in interviews, how we kind of scrapped an entire album and eventually got to the Young album. That’s because we know you guys deserve the best. You deserve our hearts, and we poured our heart and souls into this album. And we’re so proud of track 1 through 10. And we love you guys. Thank you for being patient with us always, and for listening to the music. We wouldn’t be here without you guys.”

Young is the latest studio album from the award-winning duo since their highly-anticipated double Christmas album arrived in 2024. It also follows Bigger Houses (2023), Good Things (2021), Dan + Shay (2018), Obsessed (2016) and Where It All Began (2014). Dan + Shay said when they announced Young earlier this year, “this is by far our most personal album yet, and gives a real-time snapshot of exactly where we are in our lives. …From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for your patience and support while we made YOUNG. We’ve never been more proud of a batch of songs, and hope they mean as much to you as they do to us.”
