Amy shared a list of things to say to someone when they belittle you.
The first thing was “Hey, can you repeat that,” which everyone thought was wise. Making them repeat the rude comment will make it resonate extra with them and shines a light on how big of a jerk they are being. But you must calmly say it because then they don’t get the hit of dopamine they were expecting, and it puts a spotlight on their behavior which makes them nervous.
The second thing was to use questions of intent and ask them if they meant to hurt them and if they wanted to make them feel that way. Ask them if their goal was to hurt their feelings or if they meant to embarrass them like that. The third option was silence. You have the choice to not respond at all and let them linger in their silence. They felt like the one person this might not work on is Lunchbox because if you were to ask him to repeat a hurtful comment he said, he’d have no problem saying it again and that time louder.
