22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama can be seen in a viral video quickly climbing up the front of a building. He saw a 4-year-old child dangling from the balcony and hardly thought twice before scaling the building to save the kid.
The brave act occurred on Saturday in Paris at the 18th Arrondissement building.
Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, called Gassama following the rescue to thank him for his "act of bravery." Gassama was a migrant from Mali and hoped to build a life in Paris, Mayor Hidalgo helped him meet with French President Emmanual Macron. The French President told Gassama that he would soon be granted French citizenship and receive a job with the Paris fire brigade.
