9-year-old Sammie Vance has recently found a creative way to fund and create "Buddy Benches" - a safe place for a child to sit down if they want to make friends.
Buddy Benches aren't a new invention, but they are still a rare thing to find in communities. Sammie's mother Heidi, says her daughter heard of the idea while attending Vacation Bible and came home to tell her mother she wanted to create one for her school.
After her school principal approved the initiative, Sammie and her mother sent out a PSA. From the help of Facebook, her school's PTA, members of the community and local news organizations, the duo was able to gather over 1,600 lbs of bottle caps. Those bottle caps would then be sent to a company that turns recycled caps and lids into benches.
