Runner Crawls On Broken Leg To Complete Relay Marathon

Runner Rei Iida was competing in the Princess Ekiden All-Japan-Inter-Company Women's qualifying race in Japan's Fukoka Prefecture when she reportedly fractured her leg.

Iida was running a group marathon where six runners took on around 4.5 miles each, and about midway through her stint, she fractured her leg. Despite the fracture, she continued on eventually falling and crawling on her bloodied knees to the end of her run.

On the video, you see Iida grimacing as she crawls to her partner and handing over the baton then being lifted to her feet.

The team's manager had heard the runner fractured her leg and actually withdrew the team from the race, but that wasn't communicated to Iida who wanted to make sure not to disappoint her team.
