October Books managed to stay in business for over 40 years. However, in July of 2018 their rent went up and they could no longer afford to stay.
So someone started a fundraising campaign that managed to raise over half-a-million dollars to purchase an entirely different building. This was great news because the business could relocate, however, the business still had to deal with the huge task of relocating all the books.
The new building was only about 500 feet away from their current location. Over 250 volunteers showed up to the store to help them move all of the books... by forming a human chain. They lined up between the original location and the new location and passed two or three books at a time down the line. With the help of volunteers, they knocked the whole thing out in a few hours.
