TMSG: UPS Driver Dives Into Icy Pond To Save Dog

UPS Driver Ryan Arens was delivering packages on his route in Bozeman, MT when he heard a dog yelping and crying. The sun was setting and at first, Arens wasn't able to see the dog. He jumped into his truck and drove around the nearby pound until he spotted a struggling dog. Arens told Great Falls Tribune, "I could see the dog trapped about 10-15 feet off of shore, with ice all around it."

Once he saw the dog, he noticed an elderly man in a rowboat attempting to break the ice and get to the dog. So Arens sprung into action, removed his clothes and jumped in to rescue the man, then using the boat to get close to the dog. The ice thinned out and Arens fell out of the boat into the frigid pond, but he didn't stop, Arens decided to swim the remainder of the way to the dog. He got to her as she was starting to go under, grabbing Sadie, the 2.5-years-old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon by the collar and swimming with her to solid ice. He lifted out the pup and slid her to shore where he then pulled himself out, being greeted by a neighbor with a blanket.

Arens sustained only a few cuts and the pup made it out alive. Weeks later, he delivered a package to the home of Sadie, and she immediately recognized him and went running towards him.
