Blake Shelton Kept Engagement Ring In Truck Door For Weeks Before Proposal

Despite the craziness of 2020 due to the pandemic, Blake Shelton has been able to keep himself plenty busy. He virtually came on The Bobby Bones Show to talk with Bobby Bones about the finale of The Voice, his time as People's Sexiest Man Alive, producing Hallmark Christmas Movies, and of course, his engagement and proposal to Gwen Stefani.

The Voice finale Part 1 happens tonight. Shelton shared what things have been like on set since going back to work amid the pandemic. He said that the "trailer business" is gone. All of the judges on the show actually just have tiny rooms within one studio where they get prepared for each day's filming. He shared that at this point in the season, he has more responsibilities with helping his artists rather than days when they're filming Blind Auditions. He confessed that he doesn't really get nerves for the show, but he does get nervous for the artists on his team. Their filming has been happening in Los Angeles and confessed he doesn't really have a social life while he's out there. He said they get done filming at 10pm and he's driving home after the state's curfew due to the pandemic.

Shelton isn't just a talent on the TV screen this year, he's also continuing his producing role for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. He produced Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas (2018), Time for You to Come Home for Christmas (2019), and the newly released sequel Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas (December 2020). The original movie Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas was based on a book that Shelton's mom wrote. Shelton and his mom also wrote a song together for the movie. Shelton shared that the movies have done really well and it's been really fun for him.

People's Sexiest Man Alive list is always one of the hottest lists to come out each year, especially for everyone to see who was chosen as the Sexiest Man Alive. Blake Shelton was one of those chosen in 2017 and to this day faces criticism from trolls on social media. He shared that the year he was chosen, People Magazine believed the nation need a little comic relief, but instead of laughing when Shelton was chosen, they just got angry. In regard to all of the negative online feedback Shelton said, "What's concerning is that any grown human being would spend their life being concerned that I was named."

As for his personal life, Shelton shared some new details from his proposal to artist and fellow The Voice Coach Gwen Stefani. Shelton shared that he never wanted their proposal to be private and away from all of their loved ones. He said he always knew he wanted to do it in Oklahoma with both of their families present, especially her kids. He added that her kids being there felt very important. Shelton reached out to Stefani's favorite jeweler that she always uses in California for the engagement ring. He said that the ring did end up being a little big on Stefani, but it ended up being a good thing because he was concerned about it being "too small [...] not fitting on her finger." Though the most interesting detail Shelton shared was where he kept the engagement ring and for how long. He said he had the ring for about 2.5 weeks ahead of the proposal. He kept it in the compartment of the door of his truck. He was worried every single day that the ring would fall out, however he had it in there for a reason. He kept waiting for the right moment to do the proposal and always wanted to have it on hand for when the special occasion presented itself.
