TMSG: Helicopter Crew Rescues Women In Boat Dangling Over Edge Of Dam

Emergency responders in Austin, Texas had a big rescue to pull off recently after a boat carrying four women was second away from going over a dam.

Austin-Travis County EMS Captain Darren Noak told PEOPLE Magazine they were receiving a lot of frantic 911 calls from onlookers reporting that a boat in Lady Bird Lake was up against the damn with multiple people on board.

Lady Bird Lake holds Austin's Longhorn Dam, and a turquoise, electric rental boat had drifted too close to the damn and became "highly centered" on the spillway. The small boat didn't have enough power to reverse, and another small boat from the rental company tried to help but it wasn't strong enough.

That's when Austin-Travis County EMS, Austin Fire Department and the Austin Police Department immediately responded to help the boat in distress. They lowered four life jackets to the boat's passengers and quickly plotted a rescue plan.

Thankfully a lake patrol boat manned by Austin Police was able to pull the boat to safety and nobody on board was hurt.
