TMSG: Coach Cancels Workout, Tells Players to Shovel Driveways for Others

A winter snowstorm recently caused cancellations to extracurricular activities at schools in Pennsylvania.

Bethel Park High School football coach Brian DeLallo realized his team's weightlifting workout wouldn't happen. So he used the cancellations as an opportunity to give them a different kind of workout. He sent out a tweet on Sunday to inform his players that the workout at school would be canceled, so they should instead find an elderly or disabled neighbor and shovel their driveway for no cost.

The players listened to their coach and took to their neighbors assisting wherever possible. Dozens of residents were happy to take up the players on their offer, and the team enjoyed their unusual workout. Team captain Gavin Moul told KDKA, "I feel great about it and think we all feel great about it. It's not only helping them, but it's helping us to become a better team."

Coach DeLallo didn't expect his tweet to go viral. After receiving so much attention, he sent out a follow up tweet noting that he wanted to give credit for the idea to Jeff Metheny, who was head football coach at Bethel Park High School for 25 years before DeLallo was hired. He added that they are simply carrying on 1 of the many great traditions he established.
