On January 17th, 2022 the world continued to mourn the loss of Betty White on what would have been her 100th birthday. However, the world did more than mourn, they celebrated her passions, one in particular.
White was on the Board of Directors for Actors & Others For Animals charity for several years of her life. The charity launched a campaign asking for donates of $100 for Betty's 100th birthday. Their campaign became a movement and people all over were sharing the #BettyWhiteChallenge and donating to their local animal shelters and charities in White's name.
According to Facebook and Instagram, there were 400,000 people who used their apps to donate to the challenge. Through the two social media apps online, people raised $12.7 million dollars for animal shelters, rescuers, and charities all over the country. Some of the very special fundraisers: two Philadelphia shelters brought in $100,000, a Los Angeles zoo charity got $70,000, an Arkansas shelter received over $12,000, and some Dubuque, Iowa shelters received $13,000.
Not intended for this particular campaign, White's team had prepared a video to share on her 100th birthday, which was recorded just days before her death. Her team posted the video on her Instagram page as a farewell to her fans. White said in the video, "I just want to thank you all for your love and support over the years. Thank you so much, and stick around!"
