Riley Green Shares How Collaboration With Luke Combs Came Together

Riley Green called into The Bobby Bones Show to talk about his new album, recording a song with Luke Combs, why his High School dedicated their gym to him and more!

Riley Green’s new record, Ain’t My Last Rodeo, is out now! “Different 'Round Here,” the lead single was originally on his 2019 record, but after seeing it have a resurgence with fans, he wanted to give them a new version. Green was on Luke Combs tour over the summer, and he texted him asking if he wanted to be part of the single. Green said thankfully Combs agreed because he did not ask him in the most professional way. Usually, you’d have to go through different people at the record labels, but since they are friends and touring together, he just asked him himself.

The title track of his new record, “Ain’t My Last Rodeo” was inspired by his grandfather who passed away in 2010. He was very close to him and towards the end of his life, he spent a lot of time in the hospital. While he was there, he told Green, “This ain’t my last rodeo,” and he thought it was a positive message for tough times.

Jacksonville High School, in Jacksonville, Alabama dedicated a portion of the court in their gym to him. His name and logo are on it and he’s happy to contribute back to the place that helped raise him. He played quarterback at Jacksonville State University, and they named the sports performance center after him. He did a benefit concert there and played a charity softball game to benefit the University and St. Jude. He said he owes them a lot because he grew up there and those places have inspired him a lot.

Green is gearing up to hit the road for his Ain’t My Last Rodeo Tour in 2024. The 33-city tour will kick off on February 22 and wrap on June 1st. Tracey Lawrence will be joining him on the road which he can’t believe because that was one of his heroes growing up.
