The Check, Please: Bobby’s 30-Minute Dinner Rule

Bobby has an unusual rule whenever he goes out to dinner with his wife.

He shared that when he and his wife go out to dinner, he will put his entire order in the very first time the server comes to their table. Then, whenever the food arrives, he asks them to bring the check. He says normally the servers are ok with his fast paced requests, but sometimes they are stunned at him asking for the check when food arrives. Bobby and his wife like to leave as soon as they finish their last bites, so having the check lets them do that.

When he shared it online, he got some negative feedback from people who say going out to dinner and talking to people with you is good fellowship. But for Bobby, he goes to restaurants because he wants the food, not looking for fellowship especially because him and his wife already spend a lot of time together. Bobby's wife does get upset with him whenever he implements this same rule when they're out with friends. He will always tell the server he's ready to order without waiting for the rest of the table, and that's the one thing she doesn't like about all of this. Bobby said then his move is to say he will go first so everyone has time to quickly pick. He does it this way because he doesn't want to sit there forever, he doesn't like when dinners last an hour or worse, two hours. He also hates when someone orders coffee at the end of a dinner, especially if everyone said no to dessert and one person says they want a coffee. He doesn't think that's necessary and they should get Starbucks on the way home instead.

Bobby and his wife's dinners out usually last no more than 30 minutes.
