Bobby made it clear right from the start, he’s not pregnant. His wife is. But lately, it feels like he’s taking some of the blame for what her body is going through.
She’s in that phase where everything smells different, and according to her, not in a good way. Bobby shared that she accused him of smelling bad the other day, despite the fact that he had just showered and put on deodorant. “She was like, ‘You do not smell good,’” he said. “I literally just took a shower and put deodorant on both armpits.” Determined to prove her wrong, he went back for a quick “bird bath,” changed his shirt, and even checked the laundry detergent. But no matter what he did, she insisted something still smelled off.
Bobby turned to Eddie for advice, asking if his wife ever went through something similar during pregnancy. Eddie confirmed, yes, absolutely. He remembered his wife having supercharged smell sensitivity, joking that it was almost like a “dog-level” sense of smell. Bobby said it’s gotten to the point where he’s blaming the baby for some of the weird things happening. “When there are dumber things coming out of her mouth, that’s my fault because I’m inside her now,” he laughed. “That’s the me that’s making her say those ridiculous things.”
To try and keep the peace (and the air clear), Bobby’s even gone to some extremes, including shaving off body hair so it doesn’t “hold smells.” He looked it up online and found out that 60% of people have argued with someone over recurring smells in shared spaces, whether it’s a roommate, a partner, or a family member. He’s hoping others can relate. “If you’ve gone through this,” he said, “DM me your story so I can show my wife. It would make my life a lot easier.”
So for now, Bobby’s working through the strange world of pregnancy side effects: one scrub, shave, and shower at a time.
