The Bobby Bones Show kicked off with a discussion about whether it’s okay for young people to have celebrity crushes, even when the celebrity is much older. Bobby referenced a Kansas State study that says child development experts believe celebrity crushes are actually safe and healthy. Parents are encouraged to be accepting of them because a celebrity crush is unlikely to turn into anything real and can feel safer than a crush on someone older who’s actually accessible. According to the experts, these crushes can help with identity development and self-confidence.
That led to everyone sharing their top three celebrity crushes from when they were kids.
Bobby went first. His number three was Danica McKellar, best known as Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years. He mentioned she’s coming by the BobbyCast soon. Number two was Jennifer Love Hewitt, especially from I Know What You Did Last Summer. His number one crush was Alyssa Milano, from Who’s the Boss? and later Charmed. Bobby said he was never really into Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell, adding that she was Zach Morris’ girl and he didn’t want to cross that line.
Amy shared her list next. Her number three was Luke Perry, who played Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210. Number two was Patrick Swayze after Dirty Dancing. Amy told a story about writing Patrick Swayze a letter when she was in second or third grade and even including a school photo. Her mom allowed her to write the letter, but never mailed it. Years later, Amy found the letter at her mom’s house and still has it today. Her number one crush was Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played Zack Morris on Saved by the Bell.
Eddie then shared his picks. His number three was Kathy Ireland, even though she was much older at the time. Number two was Lea Thompson, from Back to the Future and Howard the Duck. Eddie mentioned that he later met Lea Thompson as an adult and still felt starstruck. His number one crush was Candace Cameron, who played DJ Tanner on Full House. Eddie said he has met her and described her as very nice.
Lunchbox rounded out the list. His number three was Tiffany Amber Thiessen from Saved by the Bell. Number two was Christina Applegate from Married… with Children and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. His number one was Cindy Crawford, calling her the ultimate swimsuit model of that era. Lunchbox also mentioned Cindy Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber, and how much she resembles her mom.
