Bobby Bones Shares First Thoughts Being a Dad

Bobby Bones and his wife Caitlin welcomed their new baby girl to the world!

Bobby shared some stories from his home studio, one being the night they brought her home and the other a couple days later. His wife Caitlin gave birth to a baby girl named Billie, who was named after Caitlin's dad, Billie's grandpa. He shared that everyone is happy and healthy. Admittedly, Bobby was nervous leading up to installing the car seat, saying people made it seem extremely difficult. He shared that it ended up being easy, with two snaps connecting to the base and an additional stabilizing piece to the floor. Despite that, he said he got nervous again when leaving the hospital because a nurse walked down with them to check the installation. He remembers placing Billie in the car seat for the first time and hearing the secure click, noting that many people warned him about being nervous to drive home with a baby, but he wasn't as nervous about that.

However, he was concerned about his wife Caitlin, having just given birth he wanted to avoid any bumps in the road that may make her uncomfortable. Bobby admitted he did miss a turn but that they made it home safely. He added that Caitlins parents were in town, which allowed him to step away briefly to record a few radio show segments in the moment. They had spent a couple of days at the hospital and Bobby remembers it as very cold, noting the couch was not comfortable, but he knows it wasn't about his comfort.

A few days later, Bobby recorded another segment, sharing how it had all felt like a blur since bringing the baby home. He said everyone was pretty sleepy but that he had prepared himself for that, so it didn’t feel as overwhelming as expected. They had been able to watch a lot of basketball, noting the SEC tournament was happening when they got home and that Arkansas won. He added that the baby was undefeated so far while watching basketball and they were looking forward to watching the hogs in the NCAA tournament.

There were things Bobby realized he wasn’t good at and things he was surprisingly good at. He wasn’t good at not gagging when changing diapers, though he was improving with time and exposure. He admitted he was initially nervous to change a diaper on his own, worried about doing it wrong and finding it gross, but it has since become easier. He discovered he was good at predicting water temperature for the baby’s bath. He explained they had rubber duckies that display the temperature, but he could almost guess it accurately just by feeling the water, though he still used the ducky to confirm.

Bobby reiterated they had a daughter named Billie, again noting she was named after Kaitlyn’s dad. He said Kaitlyn’s parents had stayed for a few days before returning to Oklahoma and were a tremendous help. He added that the house was now a disaster.

Bobby said he was trying to be a good assistant to his wife, aiming for an “A plus” as a husband during this time. He said he was doing his best to be there for whatever she needed, even if he wasn’t perfect.

Bobby shared that they had gone through many diapers and expressed amazement at how expensive they were. He gave a shoutout to parents everywhere, including his own, noting that his mom had him at 16 and his biological dad was 17. He questioned how they were able to afford diapers, saying he now understood how costly they were.

Bobby said they were fortunate not to have to worry about affording diapers but emphasized how quickly they go through them. He ended by saying everything was going pretty well, even though it was all a blur, and that there would be more to talk about when they returned live to the show.
