Bobby Introduces Amy & Eddie to Baby Billie

While recording from his home studio, Bobby's wife Caitlin brought their newborn daughter, Billie, downstairs for the first time, giving Amy and Eddie their long-awaited introduction.

Before that moment, plans to meet the baby had already been delayed. Bobby explained how quickly things shifted after their visit to the pediatrician. The pediatrician “put the fear of God in us,” warning them not to let the baby be around anyone who had recently been on an airplane, anyone who might be sick, or even children. The caution meant Amy and Eddie, both eager to visit, had to hold off. Amy had just returned from a trip to Austin, and Eddie and his wife weren’t feeling their best, suspecting allergies. Despite the delay, the moment finally arrived.

Amy, seeing Bobby hold his daughter, found herself overwhelmed in a way she didn’t expect. Amy shared that she had “this feeling inside… like this giddiness,” explaining that her “heart is smiling” as she watched someone she had known for so long step into fatherhood. She reflected on knowing Bobby since their early twenties and said that seeing him now as a dad “just hits different.” Amy said watching him hold Billie brought back memories of when her own sister had babies, but this felt more personal. She described it as an overwhelming happiness for both Bobby and his wife, Caitlin, adding that she believes Bobby will be “an amazing dad,” especially given his own upbringing without one.

Eddie shared similar emotions but admitted what stood out most to him was Bobby’s comfort level. Eddie was surprised at how comfortable Bobby is with a newborn baby, remembering how lost he felt with his first child. Bobby acknowledged that feeling, explaining that the first moments were intimidating, but the past sevearl weeks had been a crash course in parenting: feeding, bathing, and changing the baby. Now, he said, he’s more at ease, able to step in without hesitation when his wife hands Billie over.

Still, Billie’s size caught everyone off guard. Bobby described how small she is, explaining that her head fits into the palm of his hand and that she can still wear preemie clothes. Even newborn outfits are slightly too big. When asked for their first impressions, Amy said Billie is “so, so beautiful,” pushing back on the idea that people say that about every baby. To her, this felt genuine. She described the experience of watching Bobby with his daughter as something powerful, calling it “amazing” and emphasizing how life-changing the moment is for him. Amy and Eddie both agreed, they see Bobby in Billie. Amy took it a step further saying they were twins, while Eddie pointed out similarities in her eyes and hair to Bobby. Bobby joked about the idea, saying he would prefer she look more like her mom, though he acknowledged that could change over time. Mike added his perspective, recalling the moment Billie opened her eyes. Mike said, “That’s Bobby looking at me,” describing the experience as surreal. Like the others, he reflected on knowing Bobby for years and how meaningful it felt to see this new chapter begin.

Eddie asked Bobby the question he had been thinking about: what does it actually feel like to be a dad? Bobby explained that he and his wife are experiencing it in very different ways. He described his wife as having “micro feelings,” reacting emotionally to each moment, whether it’s joy or concern, like when the baby had goop in her eye due to still-developing tear ducts. He contrasted that with his own “macro feelings,” which focus on the long-term responsibility. Bobby's thoughts are centered on providing, being present, and ensuring his daughter’s future. He admitted that fear of not being able to afford a child had always been a major concern for him, shaped by his own upbringing. Now, that fear has transformed into a broader sense of responsibility. Bobby shared that he feels a “lifetime of having to provide,” not just financially, but emotionally. He also noted that because his wife is deeply in tune with every moment, he often steps into the role of staying steady and logical when needed. At the same time, he expressed gratitude. Bobby is happy that his wife is feeling good and embracing motherhood, noting how present she is with her emotions and aware of the challenges that can come postpartum.

Bobby said simply that he is “very happy,” even as he begins to process the weight and wonder of raising a child.
