Amy Shares Daughter's Next-Step Career Plans After Graduation

Amy shared details about a recent visit to an esthetics school with her daughter Stachira, as they continue exploring career options following her high school graduation.

Stachira recently completed high school and has been considering her next steps. While she is already enrolled in some community college classes, she independently arranged a tour of a local esthetics institute and asked Amy to go with her. The visit introduced Amy to the field of esthetics, which focuses primarily on skincare treatments and related services. Amy was impressed by the program and would be excited if Stachira chose to pursue it. She joked that one of the benefits would be having access to discounted facial treatments while her daughter completed her training. Stachira is particularly interested in skincare and facial treatments. She is also curious about lymphatic massage techniques, which use lighter pressure than traditional deep-tissue massage. Amy's daughter believes she may be better suited for those techniques because they are less physically demanding on the hands and wrists.

The school representative explained that the esthetics program lasts six months and has a strong track record of helping graduates find employment. Students are required to work with clients throughout the program, and many of those clients continue seeing them after graduation when they begin working professionally. Bobby recalled getting inexpensive haircuts at a barber school in Arkansas, where students practiced while earning their state certification. Although the low prices were appealing, he admitted the results were sometimes inconsistent. Amy also visited a massage school in her twenties. She could receive a full-body massage for around $20, though the setup was unusual because multiple students and clients occupied the same room during training sessions.

One aspect of the esthetics school that stood out to Amy was its professional atmosphere. The on-site spa as beautiful, calming, and welcoming and the facility offers discounted services to the public while allowing students to gain hands-on experience. Amy was also impressed by the school's strict attendance and conduct policies. The students are given only a limited number of allowable absences or tardies before facing removal from the program. The school also maintains a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behavior and "drama." The school accepts new students on the first Tuesday of every month, meaning Stachira could potentially begin the program as early as July. Before making a final decision, Amy wants her daughter to prepare a presentation for both parents outlining the program details and her long-term plan.

Amy also shared that students are required to bring in more than 40 clients throughout the six-month program. So Amy asked the show to volunteer for facials and skincare treatments to help Stachira fulfill the requirement.
